I truly believe this is the most beautiful place in the world. The culture, the history, the art, the meaning, Pacha Mama is alive here. You can walk around by yourself, with a private tour guide, or a group (but I recommend getting a private tour guide). To get here you need to go through Aguas Calientes. From there, you can either walk up the winding mountain or take the bus. I've done both methods and both are very doable. It's recommened if you are going with a large group or family to take the bus to save time (as it's only 15 minutes up the mountain via bus). It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to hike up as their are stairwells and natural objects that can get in the way and slow you down. The best time to go is 4-5am to be able to see the sunrise over the mountains. And trust me, going any later you will hit massive crowds and not be able to enjoy the archaeological site. Also, you need to climb Huayna Picchu. It has breathtaking views to see over all of the mountain range. It is deemed one of the most difficult hikes but it's worth every single step. Machu Picchu is truly the site to see when coming to Peru to experience the magic of the Incas.
Machu Picchu was built around 1450A.D. when Incas were there, nestled between rocky peaks, it was not discovered until 1911 when Hiram Bingham, a Yale professor came to Peru. No one knows how exactly Machu Picchu was built, but one thing we know is that it’s a sacred and majestic place!
One of the most amazing Wonders of the World! The hike up here was worth the struggle, but not for the faint of heart.
