If you happen to get in without a wait...worth it. Anything >30 min wait is not

Highly recommend the pescado and pork shoulder tacos! This place is packed on the weekends or in nice weather. There's a taco stand for late night takeaway. Cash only.

Love big star. Get a pitcher of margaritas (I call them blackout margaritas) and the al pastor and fish tacos

Fun for people watching. Making new friends. Catching up with old friends. Bring cash.

Embracing a honky-tonk spirit, with such patron saints as Merle Haggard and Buck Owens, the Wicker Park taqueria—one of America’s best outdoor restaurants—keeps its menu pared down, with just five authentic taco options, including an al pastor (grilled pork with pineapple) and a taco panza (crispy pork belly with guajillo sauce). And while traditional honky-tonks rarely speak of “pairings,” here your beverage choice is considered vital: Big Star’s drink menu has two dozen beers, as many tequilas, and nearly 60 whiskeys, ryes, and bourbons. If none of those suit, you can wash down your taco with a house dulce de leche milkshake.

If you're wondering where famous people like to eat their tacos when visiting Chicago- this is the place. It is nothing to experience a two hour wait Friday and Sat lunch or dinner. BUT if you are a groupie, and wanna eat where the stars eat then I guess the wait is worth it.

Yes. Amazing tacos, but good luck getting a seat. Minimum 2 hour wait usually. Oh, and it's cash only.

Tacos, whiskey shots, and pitchers of margaritas may not sound like much, but this bar has some of the best of all three this side of the Rio Grande. If the weather is good, plan to spend a casual Sunday afternoon at this Mexican staple.

Specializing in tacos and whiskey, Big Star is a hipster haven best suited for pregaming and grabbing a quick bite before heading to dance spots like Debonair and Crocodile down the street. But don't get me wrong, you can certainly make a night out of downing $3 whiskey shots and getting to know the people next to you in the close quarters around the bar. It's also a great end-of-the-night spot for the drunken munchies. The Walking Taco won't disappoint.

Favorite restaurant/bar in the city. Try the queso fundido and the bourbon/rootbeer!

Big Star is a cash-only hotspot in the Wicker Park neighborhood. This Mexican-inspired honky tonk offers cheap eats, great cocktails, and an outdoor patio perfect for people watching and guacamole eating.

The only downside is there will be a wait - this place is popular for a reason - but the good news is, you can put your name in and spend some time exploring this part of town. Stroll through Wicker Park, directly adjacent to Big Star, or do some shopping on Milwaukee Avenue. By the time you're done, there is a $3 Taco Al Pastor and a specialty margarita waiting for you.

Big Star is a favorite of mine for their vinyl folk country jams paired with their pork shoulder tacos. The menu also has a strong list of beers and fine whiskeys hand selected. Best bar in Wicker Park to have a drink and have a cheap eat.

My favorite is the Big Star salad, but the tacos and guac are pretty great too. Margaritas are strong. Cash only, but there's an ATM and a BofA around the corner. Good spot for a Sunday funday, dinner, drinks, enjoying the weather on a nice day....and pretty much anything else. One of my absolute favorite spots in Chicago!
