Fui aquí hace unas pocas semanas y no puedo esperar a volver. La tarifa de presentación no es malo, la selección de bebidas es bueno, y la música es increíble. Me encantó cómo se hizo hincapié en la música.

ORL # 2: Green Mill Jazz Club.

Great live music, but you come here for the music, not to converse. Historic venue with a storied history.

Thrilling, it is absolutely the most original and best place to swing, dance and jazz in Chicago! The club started off in 1907 as a retreat for friends to mourn their dead, to become a casual meeting bar/lounge by 1910. In the 1920’s one of the Al Capone's crew member gained significant ownership of the club and transformed the site into the vibrant show house that the ‘Green Mill’ is today.

Great place with beautiful history but the service leaves much to be desired. Live music every night will bring you back.

MY FAVORITE JAZZ CLUB!
A 'Little' North of Wrigleyville--approx 2 miles but worth getting off the beaten track for wonderful Jazz and one of the BEST Poetry Slams around (Sunday nights)

You might recognize this jazz club from the 1981 film THIEF starring James Caan (or you might not)-- regardless, the Green Mill is a Chicago musical institution. Stop in any night of the week and hear jazz played by top-notch musicians from around the world. Rumor has it notorious gangster Al Capone used to frequent the Green Mill, and the place has certainly got a Prohibition era vibe. The space is medium-sized and usually fills up by 10 pm, at which point it's standing room only. Come in early to get a drink and a seat up front near the stage so you can admire the talented musicians' technique. There's only one rule: no talking during the sets! The owner will shush and scold you.

Drinks are affordable, the place is okay, but it is too small specially for a Saturday night. You can't barely move because there were too much people. Music is very good tho.

The super cool and hip Green Mill is one of my favorite watering holes when visiting Chicago. Head on down for a fun evening with some cool hipsters while listening to some great live music.

This was once a speakeasy and you can still see the bullet holes in the wall if you look carefully. A must-visit for great jazz and the ambience you dream of when you think of old Chicago.

If you are a poet or a poetry lover, you owe it to yourself to visit The Green Mill the next time you're in Chicago. Home of the Uptown Poetry Slam, a weekly event that got started in 1986, The Green Mill has seen many of Chicago's--and the world's--best poets on stage. Even if spoken word poetry isn't your thing, it's worth the $6 admission just to see what's going on.

The bar itself is over 100 years old, and has a rich and varied history as a speakeasy and a jazz bar. The neighborhood today still has a bit of a reputation, but I always feel safe on my way in and out of the Green Mill.

The crown jewel of historic-Chicago bars, this classic spot has been around under its current name since 1910. It’s hosted the likes of Frank Sinatra and Charlie Chaplin, and today continues to attract talented jazz musicians who keep the music blaring way past midnight. You can tell that people here care about the music, because the conversations are generally kept to a hushed tone. Patrons also keep coming back for poetry-slam events and a popular Thursday-night swing-dance shindig.

This former Jazz Age speakeasy bar is the kind of place that out-of-towners look like insiders for knowing about. They're serious about the live jazz cats who play here -- so much so that the bouncer might come over to the bar and shush you for talking even in a stage whisper while the music is going on. Never mind that annoyance because the drinks are this stiff and the tunes golden. Try to catch vocalese maestro Kurt Elling here when he's in town.

Great date spot, but not great for groups as they can be pretty firm regarding their sign that says "People pay to hear music- not you." Very Chicago.

Not quite sure why this is classified as "ice cream & desserts" unless it wants to throw people off and thus maintain its speakeasy vibe. This jazz club has a history with Chicago's mob and was one of Al Capone's faves. In fact, if you're nice to the bartender, they might show you the trap door that led to the alcohol storage areas and doubled as Capone's escape route during Prohibition times. Jazz enthusiasts flock here and will shush you if you dare speak during a set, and swing will come up at least once a week. Sundays feature slam poetry as well...so overall this is the perfect place to explore a part of Chicago that stood still through time.

If you are from out of town, the Green Mill is a good place to get a larger serving of true Chicago culture in one outing. The music is great, it's classic Chicago and you'll see people from all walks of life here.

The doorman is almost always a terrifying-looking person who isn't into jokes or smiling, but that's part of the charm.

Go for the history and the culture, stay for the jazz, stay even later for the drinks.

one of Chicago's landmarks because Al Capone used to go. Great live jazz most nights but nowhere near downtown. Worth the trek though, but get there early or you won't get a seat.
