¡My barrio!

There are a lot of unique shops and restaurants in the Wicker Park neighborhood, and relatively easy to explore on foot. It's fun just to walk and see what you'll see, including walking through the neighborhood and looking at the various mansions here.

Wicker Park is like the Brooklyn of Chicago as my travel buddy put it. It's fun, trendy, and home to great eats. The shopping here is varied, but nice. I can see why so many say not to miss this neighborhood!

Great local Chicago neighborhood, packed full with great locally own restaurants and fantastic clothing stores. There are a lot of men clothing stores here in Wicker park. For students and lovers of architecture- just visit the neighborhoods off North street and the area surrounding the actual Wicker Park. Fabulous examples of Prairie, Victorian and German style architectural influences. A lot of homeless people hang out in the Park, which it's namesake derives from. Unfortunately they give the park a cautionary feeling, and they do not bother to pick up their liter. Now the locals are use to them and for the most part ignore their presence.

Probably the most popular neighborhood along the Blue Line, Wicker Park is home to some of the best book stores, thrift shops, and live music venues in the city. Within steps of the Damen Blue Line station are hundreds of things to do: the park, Big Star (tacos!), the Flat Iron building, the Double Door, Quimby's...I could go on. Come here when you don't have to be anywhere for a while; you can lose hours just wandering the intersection of Milwaukee, Damen, and North Ave.

This relatively artsy community is removed from the lake and downtown but is a nice place to discover mom and pop boutiques, bars, and restaurants. Relatively compact and easy to explore on foot.

Wicker Park is where you will find a lot of young hipsters sitting in coffee shops or shopping at Farmers' Markets. It has a fun vibe, though, with plenty of bars and nightlife within reach. It's also an easy 10 minute cab ride to the main touristy areas downtown.

Wicker Park is everything you've heard, a hipster paradise, with everything you might need. From a "Back to the Future" delorian car in the window of your local coffee jaunt to a Family of traveling Gypsy-esque Kids on the corner, playing big band music along side their gypsy dogs.

Shopping! Vintage! Cool pubs! Mustached men in skinny jeans.. Hipsters galore... This neighborhood is too cool for words, even their advertising and promotional signs are cooler than most hoods... Except its soo not hipster to say that :)

Two (of many) great things about Chicago: the public transit is awesome and each neighborhood has its own vibe. That being said, it is a very drinking and sports driven city. Thus, one of the best ways to really get a feel for this unique city is to grab a drink or a bite at a bar; just choose your fit from one of the hundreds!

As mentioned by others, there is much to be done downtown. If you're looking to see some classic Chicago sights, definitely check out Grant Park, which encompasses Millennium Park and Buckingham Palace. You could also walk along the canal, or even take a boat tour as some suggested. The remarkable history of the city very palpable in the Loop and River North neighborhoods, especially if you want to take the time to learn about how the city emerged as a trading center thanks to the canal.

If you want a slightly different experience, I recommend spending an afternoon in somewhere outside of downtown. One I specifically highlight is Wicker Park, which blends with Bucktown. It's a proud little neighborhood with an eclectic culture. The artistic soul can be satisfied by theatres, art galleries and hot music venues. The retailist will be delighted by the shops and boutiques. The bookworm can find a cozy cafe to sit and turn some pages or a bookstore to pick up a new enticing read. The adventurer can find a market to pick up some picnic materials and head to the park. The foodie can find The social butterfly can grab a drink

A personal list that might be helpful:
-Violet Hour, Empty Bottle or Double Door for music and drinks
-Ipsento for awesome coffee
-Piece or Bangers & Lace for extensive beer options
-Trenchermen or the Bedford for pricier food
-Antique Taco or Big Star for cheaper food
-Six Corners (the intersection of North, Damen and Milwaukee Avenues) for shopping

Hipster bliss! Great bars, great shopping, great bike-rider-watching. Just go, it's easy to get to, just take the Blue Line to Damen.
