I think the cool thing about the aqueduct is that the city just built right around it instead of tearing it down. You pass right by it on your way to or from the airport and can get a good look at it that way. It is not an attraction that you really need to get out and walk near, but it is pretty neat to see how the Romans were so technologically advanced in the areas of plumbing and fresh water.

Impressive architecture, incredible history, but not too much there. Unless you're really into aqueducts, I think you can get away with viewing this one from the highway that runs under it.

Originally built in the 4th century AD by an Eastern Roman Emperor, it was rebuilt several time by various Sultans. For a long time it was the main source of water for Constantinople. An important feature of the Istanbul Skyline it is not the best place to visit. A highway runs underneath it and it's difficult to get to. Best to admire it from far away.

The Aqueduct of Valens is certainly cool to look at but it's not something that you can easily visit. Basically a highway runs right under the aqueduct and the neighborhood in which it's located is not the safest. Your best bet may be to just snap a photo on your right to or from the airport.

The Valens Aqueduct is a Roman aqueduct which was the major water-providing system of the Eastern Roman capital of Constantinople (modern Istanbul, Turkey). Completed by Roman Emperor Valens in the late 4th century AD, it was restored by several Ottoman Sultans, and is one of the most important landmarks of the city. The aqueduct stands in Istanbul, in the quarter of Fatih, and spans the valley between the hills occupied today by the Istanbul University and the Fatih Mosque. The surviving section is 921 meters long, about 50 meters less than the original length. The Atatürk Bulvarı boulevard passes under its arches.
