A real gem of a place and at a very affordable price, this lovely little wooden house is in the heart of old Istanbul and just a short walk from the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. The house is set on a very small cobbled street so is quiet and peaceful. The rooms are quite small, this is a historical house after all, but they’re really nicely done up. The inn doesn’t have many rooms and so feels like a really special and personable place. In an area full of hotels, this one is really unique and charming.

Staying here is like reading an elegantly written book about the life in old Istanbul from the pen of a forgotten Turkish author.

As can be deduced from its full name, Naz is housed in a traditional Turkish mansion that’s located in a lovely pristine Istanbul neighbourhood in Sultanahmet. The hotel’s ebony façade is eye-catching, its architecture is like a snapshot from history and its interior decoration, with carpets, small souvenirs and charming furniture boosts that feeling of intimacy. Naz has only seven rooms but it’s not easy to find them vacant. By the way, the staff is very courteous and ever-helpful.
This hotel promises an experience, not a casual stay. No wonder it is ranked here #18 in Istanbul. This is what a modest boutique hotel experience should be.

From the moment I walked into the Naz, I was transported to another time. The stone walls and old-world furnishings charmed me, and created an atmosphere of truly being Istanbul. It’s not on the main strip, but you get to experience a neighborhood feel, with hanging laundry, romping children, and locals hanging out, rather than just the tourist scene. The stone walls kept it cool and inviting, a welcome respite from the summer heat outside. Be forewarned that there is no elevator here – it’s been around a lot longer than they have. A Turkish buffet breakfast is served on the roof with views looking out over the Marmara. It may not have extensive amenities, but this hotel has loads of character, and completes the Istanbul experience.

Walking up to this hotel was quite lovely. It is on a quiet cobble stoned street and the exterior of the hotel reminds me of an old Turkish konak. Walking into the dim lobby, I thought I had been transported to Cappadocia! The eclectic mix of Anatolian furniture, carpets, art, and the texture of the walls reminded me of the lovely hotels in central Turkey which are built into the volcanic rock. All of the rooms are clean and continue the eclectic Anatolian vibe of the lobby. I loved that the hotel felt a bit vintage but not antiquated. The staff is very friendly and were all smiles during my visit. The rooftop terrace has a great view of Sultanahmet and the Marmara Sea.

A nice place for someone who wants to stay off the beaten track and away from people. It has only 7 rooms and is basically a house kept by several very quiet Turkish guys and (probably) several women, though I saw only one who was the cook.

It is set in the most beautiful neighbourhood of the old district of Sultanahmet - with narrow cobbled streets and a mix of Asian and European atmosphere that feels very cosy. It has an awesome terrace overlooking the sea (kitchen + dining room). In good weather breakfast is served on the roof which gives one a sea-and-Blue-Mosque 360 degree panorama. The stuff are all English speaking, the place has wi-fi (although not reaching as high as my second floor) and is generally clean and friendly and quiet. The proximity of the Blue Mosque means you'll be woken up at 7am for the prayer every day (the Mosque's minarets have VERY efficient amplifying systems), but it only lasts for a minute, and then everything is quiet again.

The only drawback is for those staying there in the cold season: they tend to switch off the central heating, which is in every room, for the day (to save electricity or smth) and forget to switch it on later. If you remind them, the heating is with you that very minute, but it takes effort to keep reminding. Also, sometimes hot water runs out when you want to take a shower in the dead of night - but again, Turkish people obviously think there're hammams for that, and I must say they are quite right.
