Le Pomerol is one of those hotels that look better on the inside than the outside. To be sure, hotel exteriors should not be harshly judged any more than book covers should be. And so this is a rare three-star hotel in a neighborhood chock-a-block with budget establishments; indeed, nearby St-Hubert (see my other reviews) has a slew of places that visitors should seek out only as a last resort. What makes Le Pomerol special? The restaurant is actually inviting (though there are plenty of places on Ste-Catherine East, which is a few steps south). The rooms are very, very stylish and clean. Finally, the packages are delectable and very reasonable: the Lover’s Getaway, for around $200 and change, gets you and your partner a one night stay, with queen-sized bed, a complimentary continental breakfast delivered right to your room, snacks and a bottle of sparkling rosé cider, fresh flowers and chocolates. There’s effort here. I give it top rating.
Cute and quaint, this place definitely lives up to the standard of what a good Montreal boutique hotel is. Well-connected to the plateau, the gay village, downtown, Old Montreal, UQAM and Quartier des Spectacles, Le Pomerol is sitting in an area that literally puts you in the centre of everything if you choose a direction and walk for a couple of minutes. While the rooms aren't the biggest, it's clean, tastefully decorated and cozy. Guests will love the free breakfast baskets, they're super cute and it almost feels more personal an homey, rather than a great big breakfast buffet. I'd definitely recommend this hotel to budget travellers, business people in transit and anyone looking to experience local culture.
One of the advantages of staying at Le Pomerol is that it's close to so many things: Berri UQAM, Quartier de Spectacles, Old Montreal, The Old Port and downtown! The hotel itself is quaint and quiet and very pleasant. The rooms are all unique and well set out. My bed was comfortable and the WiFi was fast so I was able to get some work done while I was staying there. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. This is a nice boutique style accommodation that is close to everything. I'd recommend it to my friends...
The staff were very helpful in providing directions for getting around town and identifying things to do nearby. Not being fluent in French wasn't an issue because of the outstanding staff and their wellness to help and teach you a few words. The hotel and the daily free breakfast were great for price.
