Great trail for a scenic hike! Difficulty only about medium with 8-mike round trip. Just avoid doing it on a hot day as there’s not much shade.

Super fun hike with a beautiful picture op at the end. It cam get quote hot so it's the best to plan to hike early or late in the day. There a super easy paved road on one side but the hike is well worth it - not too much longer and it really is pretty- way better than walking up a road. There is always a line at the photo op so do everyone a favor and have a few quick poses planned and don't spend am hour on the rock getting a thousand poses.

Here is a Good place for a Hike it takes about 2 Hours to reach the top of Potato Chip Rock !! The first thing I would Recemend is bring enough water also you might want to bring some Snacks also . The Trails here are fairly steep but if you take the MT. Woodson way it is a little easier !!! The View from the Top is amazing !! I would Suggest coming here as early as 7:00 am because the Line to take Pictures gets longer as the day Gos on !! I would say it is well worth it once you get to The top of Potato Chip Rock !!!

This is a great hike, but bring plenty of water in the summer. it is about 8 miles round trip. When you get to the top, be sure to update your Facebook profile picture!

There were mixed reviews on Potato Chip Rock hike, we thought it was a 4 mile hike, then it turn into 8 mile hike. So here is the scoop,
If you are a hiker, then this is a moderate hike for you, we hike from Lake Poway,
it is uphill all the way to the top, the weather was good that day. I can imagine being hot in the summer, so be prepared. There is a wait to have the photo op at the top.
It’s actually quite fun people watching. It took 3 hours round trip for us, so allowed some time, and eat before, it's definitely worth it!

A good moderate hike about 20 miles from here. Potato Chip Rock, at the summit, always has a line of people waiting for photos, so I recommend going early and on a weekday.

This is a fairly hard hike, if you're not a hiker. It's a little over 8 miles round trip, but it's very steep and rocky. It can also get very hot and very crowded, cause it's a popular hike. But it has great views and great photo opportunity when you get to the potato chip at the top.

Hikers...... about a 4 hour round trip hike in the local mountains. The drive to the trail head is about 15 min., it starts at Poway lake.

A super cool spot and an incredible photo op! Bear in mind the hike is VERY HARD, VERY LONG, and VERY HOT so bring the right water and mindset. Also the line to take a picture is always pretty long!

One of the biggest photo-ops in natural San Diego, Potato Chip Rock is actually a pretty serious hike in itself. Going the most direct route, you've got to scramble up some pretty good inclines, and there is no shade or water, so I would recommend this only to people that consider themselves pretty fit. It's around 7 miles round trip. But once you get the to top, you get a crazy view standing on a sliver of stone 2300 ft above the valley, and a pretty unique picture.

It is pretty popular, so either plan on going early, (it gets HOT out this far east too, so mornings are much cooler), or standing in line a bit once you reach it. Ask a stranger to take your photo, everyone usually seems really friendly.

Total Photo Op and a line to do it out in the middle of nowhere. Seriously this is as stupid as it gets, but I loved doing it and I bet if you make it up will as well! So yeah if you want to know the hell that we all go through to get here, then I suggest you look up the Mt Woodson Trail.

However this is not just the potato chip that is awesome! There is also a second great photo op spot here... There is a about 10-15' high rock that you can clamber up near the chip. This rock has about a 5' poll sticking out of it. At about 3.5' it has a couple of clamps with 6" lag bolts that are 1/4" thick. Those lag bolts provide a fairly sturdy unmoving platform that you can stand on when the wind isn't blowing hard...

Pro Tip: Have someone waiting in line take a photo for you and do the same for someone ahead of you...

I really loved my photo on the pole more than the ones I have got on the chip... it is very unique and definitely more ballsy to stand on the lag bolts than to stand on the chip... However if you see a shot of a Stormtrooper bucket and hoodie wearing dork on either one, that would be me =P

Ok the line varies in time depending on if its a weekday or weekend and how many people are there ahead of you. I believe the average time is about 15-30 minutes on a Monday or Friday and 10-15 minutes for a Tuesday- Thursday. On the weekends it ranges between an hour and an hour and a half at least. My wait was an hour.

Its definitely a good place to rest though as their is some shade from large rocks on the opposite side of the trail from the Chip and the adjoining rock has some trees overhanging part of it providing additional shade.

Just don't fall off or break the chip ok... other people want to get out there also... but it is an awesome experience I think. It is also one of the best photo op spots that I have been to. Lets see your chip pix...

A good 3 mile up-hill hike. Has to be one of the best hikes in San Diego. Located in Poway which is a 30 minute drive from San Diego. Advice get there early especially if you want a picture on top of the potato chip rock. It also gets very hot so prepare with lots of water. Parking costs $5 unless you find parking on the road but break ins are very popular for hikers leaving there cars.
