The golden circle tour leaves from Reykjavik and covers about 190 miles of south Iceland. You can drive it yourself when the weather is good, but I don’t recommend it in winter. We opted for the bus tour instead and got an animated guide who told us all about daily life in Iceland. It’s great to see these sights in winter, when Gullfoss waterfall is partially or fully frozen...you’ll really know you're in Iceland. Thingvellir National Park has a stark majesty under the snow. If you get too cold the steam vents at the Haukadalur geysers will warm you up!

If there's one thing everyone should do if visiting Iceland, it's the Golden Circle. It's the greatest hits of the greater Reykjavik area. Gorgeous waterfalls, geothermal areas, history, views. It has it all.

A great way to see the hotspots of Iceland in a quick time! We were only here for 3 days so one of the days we took the Premium Golden Circle tour & it was great! Only 7 people and very personal!

The Golden Circle tour is a common trip for many visitors to Iceland. The major stops it includes are Thingvellir National Park, Geysir, and Gullfoss, which are the ones we decided to include on our visit. You can easily hit all of these places in a single day if you use your time wisely, though that also likely depends on time of year you're visiting. We were there in late May and had roughly 20-hours of daylight every day. Winter/Fall visits likely would not be able to accommodate this kind of timing.

A must do if you are visiting Iceland. The trip I did covered Geysers, Waterfalls and the continental rift.

Do this tour if you can do only 1 tour in Iceland. You can't go wrong. The sights are absolutely amazing. This tour visits Gullfoss, Thingvellir Park and Geysir starting and ending in Reykjavik.

Do your own Golden Circle drive. All is easily accessible and the roads are well maintained.

Did you know Icelandic horses exhibit two additional gaits? Tolt and flying pace? And while they are short in stature, be sure not to refer to members of the beautiful thick coated breed as ponies.

One of the "classic" touristy things to do in Iceland. Iceland has some interesting geological finds, and it's pretty neat to see with your own eyes.

The Golden Circle is the ring of three iconic sights in western Iceland - Geysir, Thingvellir National Park, and Gullfoss. Tour busses line this loop daily, so get an early start if you're a DIY-er (which I highly recommend.) You'll also have more time to stop, play with the horses, get more photographs, and even do short hikes if you desire.
