La Academia es una de las mejores colecciones de pintura italiana en el mundo. De visita en la Academia me presentó a Tintoretto, que es uno de mis pintores preferidos a este día. Pasar una mañana en la Academia es una parte esencial de su visita a Venecia.

Most people tend to crowd around Michelangelo's David, but the gallery has so much more to offer including works from major Florentine painters such as Pontormo, Allori Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, and Orcagna as well as a Russian icon and musical instruments collections.

You'll probably come here to see Michelangelo's David, but there's so many other wonderful pieces. I've uploaded pics of David's butt in case anybody wonders what it looks like.

If you like paintings of Jesus and Mary, this is your place. We found it mind-numbingly boring even if the building itself is interesting to explore.

Gallerie dell'Accademia is home to an extensive collection of works by Venetian masters of the 18th century. A must for any art lover, student of art, or art historian. It is also the home of da Vinci's Vitruvian Man. Sadly, when I visited and asked where I could view it, I was told "oh no, it's in the dark room," and when I said "okay, where is the dark room," I was told, "oh no, nobody goes in the dark room." Que sera, sera. I'd definitely recommend getting tickets in advance to ensure fewer issues with crowds.

After a visit to the fascinating Gallerie Dell'Accademie carry on walking along Fondamenta Priuli till you get to Campo San Trovaso where you will find Squero San Trovaso, where you can admire gondolas been built or restored. After that carry on walking till you reach the big Canale della Giudecca. turn left and walk along the Zattere, always full of Venetians out for a coffee or an ice-cream. Walk all the way to Punta della Dogana where you can see one of the most amazing views ever and then go and visit Santa Maria Della Salute, the votive church that Venetians dedicated to the Madonna to thank her for saving them from the plague.

This museum has a wonderful collection of Venetian Art; a must-see if you are a fan of Titian, Tintoretto and Lotto. I especially liked Tintoretto's four scenes from The Life of San Marco - a good historical lesson as well.
The interior decoration of the museum is a work of art as well, resembling elegant sitting rooms at times. I definitely recommend getting a guide for the Accademia, or at least a detailed book.

You can purchase advanced tickets but when we went, there was no queue to purchase tickets and we got in and found the gallery quite uncrowded. This was one of the very few galleries we went to that allowed photographs (without flash).

This museum gallery is best known for its pre-1800s art in Venice. Situated on the south bank of the Grand Canal, it gives its name to one of the three bridges across the canal, the Ponte dell'Accademia, and to the vaporetto water bus stop.

The Gallerie dell’Accademia contains masterpieces of Venetian painting up to the 18th century, generally arranged chronologically with some thematic displays. The floor layout is not conducive to a continuous line. Some back tracking is required to see everything but the entire gallery is not large so you can view everything in a few hours.

Artists represented include: Gentile & Giovanni Bellini, Bellotto, Pacino di Bonaguida, Canaletto, Carpaccio, Carpioni, Rosalba Carriera, Cima da Conegliano, Fetti, Pietro Gaspari, Michele Giambono, Giordano, Francesco Guardi, Giorgione (da Castelfranco), Johann Liss, Le Brun, Pietro Longhi, Lotto, Mantegna, Rocco Marconi, Marieschi, Antonello da Messina, Piazzetta, Pittoni, Preti, Giambattista Tiepolo, Tintoretto, Titian, Veronese (Paolo Caliari), Vasari, Leonardo da Vinci (Drawing of Vitruvian Man), Vivarini, and Zais.

I particularly like Titian's Pietá, one of his last paintings which has a very impressionistic look; Antonello's Annunciation, strikingly modern in its psychological portrait of the Virgin; and Veronese's Feast in the House of Levy, a massive painting which was a last supper until he got called up by the Inquisition, who questioned its orthodoxy, so he just changed the name.

Stunning art museum, it houses the largest collection of Venetian art in existence with paintings covering five centuries. Some of the highlights here are "Cycle of St Ursula" by Carpaccio, "The Tempest" by Giorgione, and "Coronation of the Virgin" by Veneziano.
