Feel like family

The staff at the Hotel Duvall goes far and beyond any expectations. I travel to Tallahassee frequently and always return to the Duvall they make you feel like family. The staff from housekeeping to the check-in process are very engaging. The rooms always clean and well kept

DISAPPOINTING STAY-TIME TO MOVE ON

I’ve stayed at the Duvall multiple times over the past few years for business, mostly because of its convenient location for dinners either onsite or just down the street. While that convenience once made it a go-to, the overall experience has gone downhill, and it’s time for a change.
Let’s start with the rooms — they’ve always had a bit of a funk, but over time it’s become clear that whatever’s causing it isn’t being addressed. The bathrooms are by far the worst part. Who paints the floors and walls black? You have no idea if they’re clean, and the overall effect makes the space feel dark and grimy. On my most recent stay (last month), I traveled with four colleagues who all agreed: we need to find a new place. The rooms feel musty and smell moldy, and the lighting makes everything feel dreary.
To their credit, it looks like some kind of onsite management review is happening — there are always nice, professional people stationed in the lobby — but this place is overdue for a major refresh. Front desk service has been hit or miss. Some stays, it’s fine. Other times, it’s frustrating. One evening, no one was at the desk, so we went into the restaurant to see if they could help. They eventually found the front desk person — sitting silently on a couch behind us, in the dark. There’s zero chance she didn’t see us. That kind of guest experience just doesn’t cut it.
Now for the positives:
Valet is spot on. The guys are always friendly, attentive, and quick to offer help or a bottle of water — truly the best part of the stay.
The baristas at the café are also amazing. So friendly, and they make a great latte. I wish I had gotten one of their names — there’s one in particular whose warm smile and kindness always stood out. I’d cross my fingers she was the one on the espresso bar each morning.
A group of us is trying out the AC Hotel this month, and we’re aligned — we won’t be returning to the Duvall. It simply no longer meets the standard for a comfortable, reliable business

Awful Place, Better Choices Nearby

This place is awful. The only good service was from the valet. Otherwise, the snotty women at the reception desk seem like they were trained to be as rude as possible. Where do they think they're working? At some elite club? Even it was, most of the upscale properties have excellent service. These people couldn't even be bothered to have my luggage moved from my room (it was packed up) when I changed rooms. "You have to be present in the hotel," I was told. (I wouldn't be returning until after 5 p.m.) I've never encountered that, unless it was a maybe a Fairfield Inn (and even then, they'd want the room free and would have someone bring the luggage to the lobby, and I would be able to go to my new room when I returned from the office). The rooms are mostly small, and mine had plumbing issues (loud banging), and the windows are weird -- tiny squares that make the room seem a prison cell. Other problems were with billing. "We can't adjust the bill after you've checked out." No, that's not a thing. I've never encountered such clueless and/or rude hotel employees. When told one of the women that that I was going to complain to her manager (I'm not a Karen), she burst out laughing. Much better off at the AC Hotel a few blocks away, if you're looking for a full-service Marriott. It was a breath of fresh air when I moved there. Normal, pleasant people working reception.

Nice hotel , but I didn’t love the condition of the room ! The carpet didn’t appear very clean and smelled of humidity and the air condition was very loud and I don’t like valet parking only !

NO Private Bath! Who decided that sliding doors make a bathroom! And bleach smell permeates the whole space!

Don't let the lobby fool you - while it is nice, cute, and "boutique", the rooms are TERRIBLE!
The "bathroom" is literally in your room- the toilet is less then 6 feet from your head as you sleep at night! And the bleach smell is overpowering of the entire room. The "bathroom" is 2 sliding doors that meet in a corner to "create" a bathroom. No real doors, and no privacy! I'm glad I was traveling alone. The sink area is beyond small - not even enough room to leave a single item on it - if you do, the item will get wet. The shower has only a Rain Shower directly overhead - no hand held, river rock on the bottoms is uncomfortable, no place to put your own toiletries except a tiny corner metal caddy. And like most "contemporary" hotels, no place for a lady to rest her leg while shaving. Also, the whole bathroom is painted black, there is a mirror INSIDE the shower, the lighting is also bad for women, too dark in certain areas, too bright in the wrong spots (i.e. - not in front of the mirror). And the room mirror is not well lit either.
In addition to the awful bathroom, like others have mentioned, the A/C unit is just like an old school roadside motel - big "wall" unit mounted half way on the exterior wall. And of course, it has a moldy smell to mix with the bleach smell from the toilet. The window /shade is atrocious as well. There is no "black out" shade as the sun streams in all around, so not restful.
No ice machines on each floor (2 & 7 only), vending only on 2. Small "market" downstairs, but I didn't need anything there.
In an effort to be positive, the coffee maker and free water for it is nice touch. Fridge in the room is nice to have as well.
The valet starts off with a text message and is easy to retrieve the vehicle.
Nancy @ Shula's was good bartender.
