New definition of "Boutique" and "Hotel"
What we found was a bit puzzling:
Bedrooms with strong smell of bleach on arrival (tears in our eyes)
Windows with no glass, only shutters (pitch black) or mosquito net (some broken).
No noise or smoke protection.
Building site right next door, operating at odd hours, that is going to go for at least another year.
Builders making small fires in the morning, with smoke coming right into your room (no glass), as well as smoking cigarettes.
Kitchen downstairs also pumping smoke up to your room.
Quite a few mosquitoes, both outside in their courtyard and in the rooms.
Beds uncomfortable, pillows rock hard. Had to ask to change 2, only to be given new ones with brown stains.
Bathroom really odd, with shower impossible to use due to broken rails, poor pressure and a timber shelf (with bubbles and mould) bolted to the wall...well, right under where you're meant to be showering
Breakfast is just ok, location is good (like hundreds of other hotels).
Well, so I think the boutique in the name is due to the low number of rooms, certainly not due to quality or service.
And the hotel part of the name is probably a typo.
Other reviews call it a guest house, and that would be the right description.
For days we asked to speak to the manager/owner to either get a refund and move elsewhere or to get a discount. The young woman at reception (minimal english) continued to smile and apologise and kept giving us reasons why the owner couldn't come around. In the end we gave up, and really tried to spend as little as possible in there.
I know it was high season, but the price is just not right. For the same price or less we have stayed in much nicer hotels in LP during high season, and enjoyed much better service.
If the Golden Sun relabels as guest house or hostel and cuts their price down then I think they'll attract the right crowd and their customers will be happy.
But for us (4 adults + child) it was definitely a bad one. Definitely not one to recommend to friends.

Just for one night
It is, however, well placed in an alley perpendicular to the main axis of the city.
Noisy rooms because the neighbors are close by
Dark rooms, basic and pqs expensive 50 usd per night.
