Classic and Classy

A lovely, classy and historic property that that timeless and grand. Great setting and relaxed atmosphere. Rooms were well appointed with comfortable beds and great coffee maker. Nice pool. Helpful and welcoming staff. A good central location. Really enjoyed this relaxing stay!

Don’t Listen To The Naysayers

Some travellers don’t like the Rodd, but it’s a great hotel: incredible location, beautiful front patio, cordial service and tons of charm. Your windows will actually open. You can get a reasonable breakfast for an un-fancy price. The Rodd is quirky. You may or may not get a renovated room, you may end up with a squishy bathroom, some things might drive you crazy. That’s the price you pay for character. Everything at the Rodd is the opposite of antiseptic chain hotels devoid of idiosyncrasies. The Rodd isn’t for everybody, but we’ve stayed a few times, and will return. And, yes, the parking is free.

Lovely property undermined by service standards

Why we would return:
- Stately elegant former CN Rail hotel
- Close to everything downtown
- Rooftop patio that seems to be rarely used
- Comfy beds in comfy room
Why I would not return:
- Assigned room beside elevator. Very noisy. Very inconsiderate.
- Breakfast service understaffed or not well managed.
- Locked out of room prematurely.
It’s a lovely property if a little dated in decor and furniture. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was behind the two elevators that serve the first four floors (they don’t serve the rooms on the fifth floor). Reading in bed before sleep felt like a scene from Erasurehead, with the continual background noise from motors, rushing elevator cars, elevator door dings and loud banging. That staff would assign this room to any guest is highly inconsiderate, knowing that requesting a room change would require considerable effort, on the part of the guest, to repack and move. “We’re offering a discount on the engine room beside the elevator, otherwise you can have a quiet room” would have been an appropriate offer at check-in.
And to top it off, we went out for breakfast and were locked out of our room when we returned, 15 minutes before the official checkout time. One of the cleaners kindly let us in.

Outstanding standard of rooms, wonderful staff, superb location

This hotel and the staff are fabulous...location is great for exploring downtown Charlottetown in foot and Prince Edward Island by car. The staff are genuinely interested in making sure we enjoyed our stay and were super helpful.
We used the gym....it was well.appointed, and was great to have the facility. The pool looked lovely, but sadly we didn't have time to use it.
The newly updated and refurbished rooms were beautiful and very stylish, the beds are incredibly comfortable.
The traditional history of the property has been preserved, and the refurb compliments this.
We stayed in an executive twin queen room initially and then one of their suites. The suite hadn't been refurbished at the time, but it was still really lovely, HUGE space, super comfortable, quiet and luxurious....can't wait to return to this hotel, we have no issues thoroughly recommending it.

Mediocre at Best

Small rooms. Dated decor. Lounge is dark and dank. Everything feels old even though the website says renovated. Renovated when?
Kudos to the photographer who did the photos, makes the hotel look much grander than it is.
Retirees haven. Clientele all seem to be 75+ - no disrespect to seniors, just stating the facts.
Disappointing is the best description for it.
