Unique Experience in the heart of Ottawa

Its been over 20 years since I have stayed in a hostel. I took my son to Ottawa to tour universities and we decided to stay here. I had very low expectations, but from the moment we arrived until we left, it was a great experience. It is central and walking distance to everything. When we arrived, Chris at the desk chatted with us about his experience as a Carleton engineering student which we appreciated. The bunk bed room had enough space for two people staying a couple of nights. The beds were comfortable. We brought our own pillows. Earplugs are a must, the sound echoes in the hallways by design and the doors have only bars at the bottom. It was extremely clean and much more affordable than most hotels as King Charles was in town. Breakfast included coffee, bagels, an assortment of fruit, and hard boiled eggs. The staff quickly replenished anything that was low. The showers were spotless. We weren't able to make one of the tours, but we took time to tour the jail ourselves. I would stay there again.

Unique Staycation

Mind you, this is a REAL JAIL building. It’s built in 1800’s. Don’t worry even they use the original cells for you to sleep in, they are modified with new clean comfy beds. All and all you’ll think that you sleep in thematic hostel . They’re doing excellent job ! The thing that make you realized that YOU ARE IN PRISON is the guided tour around the building, exploring floor after floor completed with interesting stories about what happened long ago when the jail functioned.
Unique experience I ever have. Very special because it happened in my SOLO trip . I’m proud of myself and thanking the guys who made the nice place and staycation possible.

Absolutely phenomenal stay

This was by far the best hostel I have ever stayed in (partly because it's the only one I've stayed in haha); but, I do believe that no matter how many hostels I stay in, this will remain firmly in the top spot. The whole experience was fantastic, the people are all so friendly, staff were very helpful and sincere, plus the breakfast was a nice start to the day. You do also get to learn about the very awesome history behind the BLOODY CODE, which was just awesome for a history nerd like myself. Really, really consider this place if you want budget friendly accommodation in Ottawa! And even if you're more well off, you won't regret giving it a try :)

Nice and clean, authentic, very convenient location right in downtown. Single-person rooms are just a bed's size but you actually don't need more! There is a shared space and kitchen which are nice and clean too. Highly recommended!

A FANTASTIC Must-See Place - whether you are staying here or not!

REVIEW OF TOUR ONLY
WOW! Just Wow! I loved this tour! It is so refreshing to see, and learn about, the convergence of history and modernity: a former prison and a current hostel. Everything it promises to offer - it does, with plenty of fantastic photo opportunities too.
I was lucky enough to go on one of Simon's tours and, while I am sure all the guides are great, I can certainly vouch for Simon who is a fabulous and passionate tour guide! He is knowledgeable and informative, enthusiastic and entertaining, inclusive and respectful - and an all round excellent communicator. I cannot praise his tour highly enough!
In case you are doubtful of my credentials: I am a History Teacher and former Museum Educator with The National History Museum, London, who had already read many of the museum's/hostel's information panels yet found some magic in the tour that you cannot get from reading alone, or from your average tour guide.
I would love for all of you to know just how great this tour is and to ensure to not miss out on this wonderful opportunity! You will certainly not regret it!
