what was that
- BUT whole situation arriving there was very strange and unproffesional - the staff or tourists (not sure really) "welcomed" us with glares on their faces and asked us
"Who are you?!"
- "Hi, we are looking for a room, do you have a vacancy maybe?"
"What?!"
- "Do you have vacancy, free rooms?"
"No, we're full"
So we turned our backs and said "Ok, bye" and left in silence, nobody bothered to say "sorry, maybe next time" or similar ...
It felt like coming into a closed "fret-type" hostel, which is not welcoming random guests, so it can't be advertised as a "hostel".

Decent place but bad rate for paying by Colon's
- Generally clean
- Rooms appeared to be well maintained
- The owners were very helpful, in terms of local amenities and places to eat etc.
- The kitchen was well equipped, had most things as well as condiments for public use.
- Water machine was great. Hot, normal and cool water which was a bonus!
- Two adorable little kittens made it very homely.
Cons:
- One of the toilets were blocked, was not resolved in our two nighy stay
- When it came to paying, they asked for dollars. If not, you could either pay by card (note: 5% extra added on) or you could pay using colon (but a rate of $1= 540 colon.. AWFUL!). The reason I mention this is because the national bank would give you 561 colon for $1. Even in town the lowest we'd seen (street food place) was 550. Thought it was worth a mention. You are best off paying with dollars cash.

Thanks for the pros. About the cons, we have three bathroom because sometimes it happens. We always tell the people to help us with the toilet paper trashing it to the bin, but sometimes it happens. The two bathrooms inside the hostel are connected and the one downstairs receive all the paper from the one upstairs, where the dorms are. Sometimes happens but we will change the wc for a new one, trying it doesn't happen anymore. We apologize about it. Fortunately we hve two more bathrooms for 20 guests (when we are full) and also 3 lavatories and 3 showers with hot water.
About the rate, we explain it when you arrive here. If your reservation is in $ or in colones you can pay with the same money you made the reservation. But we are not a bank and when we have to make a deposit or change it, it punish us a lot. The colon rate changes every day, we just take the worst one durng the year 540 colones. The diference is 10 or 20 colones. If 1$ is 560 colones, you can make the conversation and 10 colones is like 0,02 dolars. Around 2 cents!! I think it's not a big deal

absolutely chaotic
the beds were semi comfortable, but clean. Room was super stuffy, hot and confined. There wasn’t even enough space to bring your luggage into the room.
Bathroom, kitchen and common area were quite grubby. But i liked that they had hot water in the shower.
DO NOT rent bikes there, not in good conditions and you can get them for cheaper at other places in town.
Now i wanna point out the thing that really bugged me about this place: The staff there were incredibly disorganized and chaotic! That wouldn’t have been that much of a problem but when i left they accused me by mail of not having paid for my stay and that i should immediately do so.
The thing is i paid right when i arrived there in the beginning but with their helter-skelter they have going on there they didn’t keep track of that. Even when i explained that i did pay they didn’t believe me asked again to pay them online.That’s a very unprofessional way to deal with customers and should not happen!!
Yeah so i would NOT ever go there again and don’t recommend anyone else to go there, there’s plenty other options in town

The problem about the payment was because we work with volunteers and when you arrived was the first day of one of them (Dani) and he told me that you didn't paid. I just sent you an email asking about it but nothing more, i think there is no accusation or something like that. If we were sure about it we could charge the night in your credit card but we never did it. We just asked you because sometimes happens and we are not worried asking for paying just at your arrival. It was a mistake and i sent you my apologizes about it. Here is all attached and i don't think it wasn't an accusation....

I saw you yesterdat but after that you didn't came back to the Hostel before i closed and i wanted to ask you this morning but you left before my arrival at 8am.
The total you owe us is 21025 Colones or 39$.
You can do the payment by credit card or through paypal.

About the bikes, you can check it out ours and if you prefeer to rent in another place it's up to you. I always give different options in case the guests prefeer to rent in another place, or if we run The difference about the price is because we rent for 24 hours, for 6$, the other places rent from 8 am to 6 pm for 5$, can you see the difference?? You don't have to walk, you don't need to leave the passport or give us the credit card. The difference is 1$.
