Check in was disorganized due to computer going down. We were placed in someone else's room, found out after a couple of hours. Hotel straightened out the problem with no disruption to our stay. Beautiful, old hotel. Elevator was out of service, inconvenient for handicapped person staying on the 3rd floor. Hotel had us park out in back which was better accomodation for our room. After dark that path was unlit and not very smooth. Overall, we were happy with our stay.

Worth a try, not a repeat

The location is excellent. The historic nature of the hotel is nice. That said, it is significantly overpriced for the quality of the experience. The beds are clean but the walls, handrails, carpets, floors, lighswitches are grimy and dirty. The carpet in particular is just foul to walk on. If they cannot bother to clean it, they should remove it and keep the wood floors. The large black spider next to the closet make me put even my shoes as high as possible.
The air conditioner was loud and musty smelling.
The shower curtains that surround the bathtub are sufficient, but there is a $500 penalty if you let water onto the floor. There is also a $50 penalty if you do not return the room key. These did not affect me, and lalthough necessary but they were the only thing communicated during check-in--felt unfriendly. The elevator does not work, so the grimy handrails were unavoidable.
Breakfast is minimal continental. The coffee, over 4 days, was brewed so strong that it tasted burnt.
In all, they do not seem to try for repeat clients.

Terrible do not stay

DO NOT STAY! They charged me for water damage that I did not do!!! The place is run down and dirty and needs lots of work and elevator is broken.

The elevator is broken and apparently the hotel does not plan to repair it. So, if you are not able or willing to climb stairs to third or fourth floor rooms, this hotel is not for you. If your balance is not excellent, you may also find the charming clawfoot climb-in tub showers hazardous.
The staff worked very hard to fix room assignments of a couple of guests at check in -- so don't count on whatever your confirmation email said or even a telephone confirmation. I did inquire in advance about an elevator and was not told it is out of service.
Finally, this is a magnificent historic hotel with, sad to say, signs of neglect everywhere.

Bad times at the Copper Queen

Stayed MOnday and Tuesday August 11-13. The front desk people are non-existent and the room was clean but the halls and common areas were very dusty and dirty. You expect the rooms to be small but the mattress on the bed was horrible. It was laying on a bed of iron springs. There was no one to complain to and went out to the pool and there was a couple with a 70 pound german shepard barking and running and scaring the crap out of everyone else. Its a cool idea but all the hotels in town looked the same. Stay at a VRBO and hopefully they have a decent mattress.
