Guests be Aware

When you go to a “Resort” and a “Spa” you tend to think of it as exclusive and for the enjoyment of the guests paying a not insignificant price for the pleasure (in our case over €1,000 over 4 nights).
However, when asked about all of the people we were coming across in the grounds of Breaffy House Resort, Duty Manager – Claire - made it very clear that, in the case of Breaffy House, the hotel and its grounds are open to everyone including anyone living in Castlebar and further afield and the residents of the 900 strong IPAS centre directly behind the main hotel, (in the same grounds as the hotel)….. however, Breaffy Hotel guest visits to this IPAS area are decidedly discouraged.
In summary, as described by Duty Manager Claire (and experienced on our visit), the grounds are akin to a public park nothing like the “101 acres of personal space” advertised on their website.
Overall, the hotel staff were lovely. A special mention to Joanna in the bar restaurant (who was a breath of fresh air) Moya on reception and Duty Manager Tony who were both very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was very good and we ate twice in the bar which was also very good.
With the ever increasingly good weather we are experiencing in Ireland the hotel really needs to invest in air conditioning, the room was very warm and we visited in May.
One final comment – The layout of the hotel was a bit unusual and we came across many “lost” guests wandering the corridors e.g. from one part of the hotel you access reception from the 2nd floor.
Overall, if the grounds were more private, we might well return. As it is…we won’t.

Disappointed we were expecting alot more

I'm originally from castlebar and have moved to Cork in recent years and anytime we visit we tend to stay here,23rd dec 24 our last stay we couldn't fault it I was promoting it to the lads at work one of whom is an independent travel agent,I booked online with the hotel and then booked the mulberry restaurant for dinner for my family as 3 birthdays that week were being celebrated,my daughter my mother and my own that day 4th May along with 5 other family members,we arrived at the restaurant nice venue but the menu was limited and didn't suit everyone the youngest being 4 and eldest 74,I asked could we go to bar restaurant and this was accommodated we arrived and were shown 2 separate tables in the corner by the host Adrian an told there you go,so as family we squeezed in around the biggest of the 2 tables now they could have been joined together,a female staff member came down and took our drinks order and one was a cocktail we asked to see a cocktail menu and we're told there was none as they were changing it,we asked for a black Russian she came back and said it can't be done another drink was a tia Maria but we got something else instead and a pint for myself,to replace the cocktail I asked for a pint of special(smithwicks with a Guinness head)normally a common enough drink in Mayo this confused the lady and we explained 3times but just said the barman would know what it is,the drinks came down and she came back to take the food order we had not said cheers yet,as we gave her the food order the pint of special slid off the table untouched by us and smashed on the floor,we explained what happened to her as she was standing there taking the order when it happened but it didn't register at all with her I asked could we get a replacement nothing came down I had to get up twice and ask different staff to get one and explained what happened eventually we got it and finally said cheers at the table, down came the starters with stuff missing,a straw for my sons drink,a spoon for my mothers soup a standard pice of equipment, wet Wipes a standard when getting chicken wings, again I had to get up and ask for these, the mains arrived after, and my mother just got goujons and chips as she was not 2 hungry what came down to her I wouldn't throw it out to a dog, again sauces we're missing that was asked for and more wet Wipes for a chicken wing mains, and cutlery for the mains, yes I had to get up again and ask,one of the staff who was very snappy, the food was ok,no one came down and asked did we water at the table it was the worst service I could have imagined,I had to get up again and find a staff member for another pint for the table,my son went an asked a lady for some ice cream and she went to the kitchen round 21:30pm and returned with some which cheered him up and I asked for the dessert menu and we politely told the kitchen was closed ffs very bad table service altogether nobody informed us earlier about this and somehow the bill appeared out of nowhere probably the same force as what slid the pint off the table,we went up to pay for the food and guess what the barman handed out a cocktail list to a customer amazing stuff altogether and then we were charged for the untouched pint that slid off the table earlier,if felt like we were thrown into a corner an disregarded, the staff seemed overworked and didn't give a toss and wanted to go home that was not a great experience, the pool was fine a bit cold and bedrooms were well equipped an comfy,if I come back it will be to stay and I'll find another venue to eat

Wonderful Stay, but Room for Improvement at the Spa

The spa was unable to manage our online booking, resulting in an hour-long wait for my wife upon arrival. This delay affected our checkout process and disrupted our planned schedule for the day.
Additionally, they were unable to locate our payment in their system, leading to numerous calls and follow-up emails on our part. Despite no action being required from us, we were unfortunately treated as if we had left without paying, due to their ongoing miscommunication.

Excellent Customer Service

We were so impressed by the experience we had staying at Breaffy House Resort recently. We have chosen Breaffy as our venue for our wedding reception next year and although we were only visiting in advance to celebrate our engagement we were delighted to receive a complimentary upgrade from a Signature Room to the Breaffy Suite which was incredible and so luxurious and comfortable. The food in the Mulberry Restaurant was so delicious and the service was excellent. Staff were so helpful and kind and we are now very excited to visit again for our wedding in 2026.
