Lovely place

Made a late booking to stay at Yorvik House in York and we we pleased with our choice. Stopped in room 12, front of building, lovely view of the church opposite. Cleanliness was good, nicely decorated, great bathroom, shower was really powerful especially to say we were on the top floor. No issues with noise from other rooms. The lady who checked us in & out was friendly and chatty. Really excellent stay, we loved it & we would stay again.

Room for improvement

We stayed here for one night. The hotel was of excellent quality, close location to attractions, and clean. However, in the morning we found that there was no hot water available for showering and it took some time and persuasion for this to be rectified. The lady on reception did not seem very keen to resolve the problem and some pressure had to be brought to bear. However, at the last minute the hot water came back on and we were able to shower before setting out on our sightseeing around York. I think a little bit more positivity towards rectifying the problem would have helped matters. Not too keen on the idea of revisiting. One point to note though is that the cleaning lady was very helpful and in truth it was her positive attitude that instigated fixing the problem.
PS, the television did not seem to work properly either. However, we didn’t point out this problem as we were preoccupied with trying to get clean.

Uncaring staff with no idea about customer service

Heating faulty & remained so for all our stay, maintenance guy had gone home & we were told 'no portable heaters in the hotel'. Mornings were quite chilly in the room.
We were offered another room but this would've been very inconvenient given this was 2nd day we were settled in.
Tiny, inadequate oil rad supplied 2nd night after much complaining.
No flannels or teaspoons. Went to reception to ask for teaspoons and these were supplied but they were dirty and I had to wash them myself.
Staff (specific) that dealt with our problem showed little empathy or a wish to solve the problem for us.
Aside from an excellent location & the appearance, our room (12) could not be described as a ‘luxury’ double room & hotel should be self-rated as ‘5-Star’!

Lovely first visit to York!

Returned today from a lovely visit to York staying at the Jorvik House Hotel. The staff were friendly upon arrival and at check out.
We stayed in the Loft Suite which was very spacious, had a great size bathroom, lovely view over to the Museum Gardens and was very quiet. We did find that the style of blinds did let some light through, the mattress felt old as we could feel springs, the positioning of the TV wasn’t the best, and some walls could do with some attention to reflect the price of the room.
Great location, it is opposite the entrance to the Museum Gardens and only 5 minute walk into the centre of York. Close by is the train station and access on to the river cruise.
We parked at Marygate car park which is only behind the Hotel, 2 minute walk.
Breakfast was an option through the Hotel but we decided to walk into the centre, ate at a lovely cafe called Wheldrakes, opened at 8.30am!

Lovely place to stay

Lovely room, friendly staff. Very convenient for central York. We didn’t use the breakfast service; there are plenty of cafes and restaurants near by although the Museum gardens don’t open till 9 so you need to walk round if it’s earlier.
